Recorded over 10 years
ago and released during the height of the grunge era. Guitar
Dominance was the one that started it all for me. The press
thought I was nuts making this kind of record back then, outdated
and unfashionable. But trends come and go and I'm still here
shredding and haven't let up one bit. The album was made on
an old 16 track 1/2 inch tape machine in my old buddy Ducky
Carlisle's first studio. I recorded the album using two full
Marshall stacks (early 70`s non master 50`s) and a very early
model Fender Yngwie Malmsteen signature stratocaster (my main
guitar during that time period). I've long since retired the
white ruffle shirt and fringe leather you see in the cover
photos, but many of the musical elements you hear in this
debut solo effort have remained constant throughout my career.
The heavy neo-classical speed metal of Paganini's Revenge,
In For The Kill and Survival Of The Fastest. The old school
thrash and Euro-metal of The Ultraviolence. The full-on shred
assault of Strat Attack and the emotional note wrenching playing
in the ballad Jetaime. I look back on this record and it really
holds up quite nicely . The band I had back then had been
together for awhile and we had a significant amount of live
shows under our belt . I think that brought a certain honesty
to the recording. In fact that was the name of the band Joe
Stump's Guitar Dominance ( I know a bit long and pretentious)
Many of the tracks -Paganini, In For The Kill, Behind The
8 Ball and Jetaime are still staples during many of my live
shows. Also I still play sections of Strat Attack during my
live solo. It's hard believe an entire decade of shred has
passed since the making of that record.
