Pretissimo
What can I tell you; it's just a little guitar symphony (2 movements). Totally absurd and even more pretentious, extremely intense and classical. This one was a lot of fun recording (If you don't know what pretissimo means look it up and then the title will make perfect sense).
Facemelter
I really love this tune; it's a cool mix of heavy rhythms and solos, and the melody is really haunting and pretty at the same time. Plus the whole first solo section is harmonized and extremely European sounding.
Night Of The Living Shred
The title track to this disc. By far, the sickest, most intense thing I have ever played. My head almost exploded recording this one. I love the grrove at the end; it's great to solo over; and heavy as hell.
Never Forgotten
This track is dedicated to the memory of my grandparents, with whom I was very close. They passed away some tume ago, and in remembering them, I am also showing appreciation to the rest of my family. Since day one they have totally loving and supportive.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
A total Euro-Metal extravaganza. Some of the best sounding stuff during our live shows is when I'm locking in with the guys and just playing heavy rhythms and power grooves. This track definitely has a lot of that. Plus the melody is really nicely put together. For the solo, I had no idea what I was gonna play, and the one we ended up keeping was a total "seat of your pants" kind of take.
The Jimi Stomp
Hendrix ruled the universe back then as he still does. As my friend "Big Guy" always says, Jimi is the King of Rock. He was also cool as shit.
Chasing The Jack
A high velocity double kick track. I love playing over this type of groove and I've got to have at least one of these on each record. I tried to make this one a bit less classical by adding some souped up bluesy stuff. Also the unison guitars and bass parts add quite a bit to the track.
Heavy Handed
I love a lot of thrash and power metal music, but many times don't care for the vocals. On this one, my focus was much more on the heavy rhythm guitars. The idea was an instrumental with no melody, no main theme, just a serious of ultra-violently heavy grooves with plenty of insanely fast lead guitar strategically placed.
Texas Chainsaw Boogie
My own personal take on the Texas Blues "thang". I tried to hold back and play a bit more traditionally on this one (well for me anyway). What more can you say about Stevie Ray; he had so much in his hands, it was ridiculous.
Timeless
This track has three different sections. It's similar to Paganini's Revenge from Guitar Dominance in that I wanted to have some extremely classical playing followed by a slower section set up for more emotional playing. The title comes from the fact that strong melodies and great chord sequences hold up quite well, regardless of what today's writers and critics say is fashionable.
Chop Shop Serenade
A neo-classical lover's wet dream. I really could care less when the guitar magazine writers say that this kind of playing is dated and out of fashion. It is a style of guitar I've been playing for a very long time and will continue to play. If I wanted to be fashionable I would grow a goatee, stick a sock on my head, and forget how to tune and play my guitar. No thanks.
